It has been promised that there would be snow in Sochi in spite of warm temperature. On February 7, the temperature was 66 degrees in the town and 59 degrees in the mountains. Anyway, there are no doubts that Sochi will host a number of great events. Here is a short list of them:
- Ice hockey games will be held at the Shayba Arena holding 7,000 people, which is situated near other ice skating spots.
- The opening and closing ceremonies of 2014 Olympic Games as well as the majority of medal ceremonies will take place at the Olympic Stadium, which holds 40,000 people.
- “Ice Cube” Curling Centre with capacity of 3,000 will host curling competitions.
- Bolshoy Ice Dome is a venue which resembles a frozen water drop as well as a discotheque dance floor at night when numerous colors appear on its roof; it can hold up to 12,000 people.
- Adler Arena, the capacity of which is 8,000, is a home place for speedskating events. A practice area and 2 competition tracks can be found there.
- “Iceberg” Skating Palace can hold 12,000 people. All figure skating events will take place there.
- “Rosa Khutor” Alpine Center with capacity of 7,500 will host various skiing activities: giant slalom, combined, downhill, and super-G.
- “Laura” cross-country ski and biathlon center, being able to hold 7,500 people, is situated in the Psekhako Ridge.
- A mountain river “Laura” was named after a girl who preferred to jump of a rock than to live with an old prince.
- Ski jumping and Nordic combined events will take place in “RusSki Gorki” Jumping Center, the capacity of which is 7,500.
- Snowboarding and freestyle skiing events will be held in “Rosa Khutor” Extreme Park.
- And finally, luge, bobsled, and skeleton events will take place in Sanki Sliding Center.
