Desiree Davila, a world-known runner from the United States, did not take part in the distance marathon in New York. Unlike the majority of the distance runners who came to New York to hit a 26.2-mile course, she knew from the very beginning that she would not take part in the competition. The runner is still restoring her health back to normal.
Davila has not been taking part in any competitions since the 5th of August when she withdrew from the Olympics race. The runner was hit by a mysterious hip injury that forced her out of the Olympics. She had to withdraw from 26.2-mile marathon course, having run only 2.2 miles. Davila was devastated as she failed on the track she had been visualizing for four years. Although Davila trained on an upgraded, hi-tech treadmill and took a cortisone shot, miracle did not happen – she walked away from the race.
When a failed distance runner returned home, an MRI was conducted. It showed that Davila’s right femoral shaft had a stress fracture. The initial RMI conducted before the Olympics failed to find it. As a result, Davila had to rest for two months and only then began some bike work. In two weeks after two months’ rest, she started to run from 10 minutes a day. Davila joked that she became a worse runner than her husband and their two dogs. Davila leads a goal-oriented life, so it is no wonder that this layoff was a blast for her. Currently, she is looking forward to restoring quicker and taking part in new competitions.
Meanwhile, Davila says that she has no regrets that she took part in London’s Olympics. I did my best, she says, but I was not diagnosed right. If the doctors had done their job, I would not have tried to get to London. Now, Davila is getting ready to take part in the Boston Marathon. She is unsure whether she will race or not as her right his still needs some physical therapy. To note, the Boston Marathon, where Davila set a new record in 2011, is to take place on the 15th of April. Davila claims that she will have to push the envelope in January to get ready to the marathon.
